Reception and tasting at retreat site.  Includes wine and hors d’oeuvres. Get to know your fellow participants in a relaxed and tasty meet and greet at the Learn Great Foods Kitchen. Cooking issues and questions, practical ideas for buying organically, finding suppliers, and asking the right questions!

The after-dinner chats in the Learn Great Foods Kitchen are a special bonus of this get-away-from-routine weekend! 

 

DAY 2 –Saturday

Tour of Mount Carroll Farmer's Market.

Dicussion with organic growers and bakers on how they find ingredients with which to work.

11:30 am     Gourmet picnic lunch at Palisades State Park, overlooking the Mississippi River and "blue bridge" to Iowa's only island city, Sabula.

1:00 pm

Tour of Seger's Tree Farm, Thomson.  Tour and talk with Dave Seger about shiitake mushrooms and spring berries.

3:00 pm

 Relax and enjoy a siesta - to be used for shopping or rest or hiking.  Enjoy a hike at Palisades State Park, or shopping at the quaint stores and boutiques of historic downtown Mount Carroll.

5:00 pm  

Cooking Class, Learn Great Foods Kitchen.  Class with Donna Duvall, Personal Chef, Food Fancies. Relax and regroup with tasty treats and wine.
