DAY 1 –Saturday

8:00-9:00 am 

DAY ONE – Saturday,August 30, 2008

Breakfast at Bed & Breakfast of choice

9:00 am

Tour of Mount Carroll Farmer's Market.

Get to know fellow participants as we tour the Mount Carroll Farmer's Market.  Discussion with Dave Seger, Seger's Tree Farm, about healthful properties of shiitake mushrooms and berries.

11:30 am     Local foods picnic lunch at Palisades State Park, overlooking the Mississippi River and "blue bridge" to Iowa's only island city, Sabula.

1:00 pm

Tour of Evergreen Hill Farm, Sabula, Iowa.  Tour and talk with Bill Giddings, about his organic beef production.  Sniff the organic compost and say hi to the cattle.  After the tour, we enjoy a snack at Bill's peaceful treestand, among trees planted by his nurseryman great-grandfather.

3:00 pm

Relax and enjoy a siesta - to be used for shopping or rest or hiking.  Enjoy a hike at Palisades State Park, or shopping at the quaint stores and boutiques of historic downtowns, Savana or Mount Carroll, on the way back from Sabula.

5:00 pm  

Cooking Class, Learn Great Foods Kitchen.  Class with Donna Duvall, Personal Chef, Food Fancies. Relax and regroup with tasty treats and wine.

Visit to Steve Holesinger's farm in Stockton, to see Sultana the cow and taste raw milk (optional).
